Studio Tenjung was founded in 2019 by Tenzin Tsomo. Our journey started with a bespoke rug program designed for artists and designers, enabling them to turn their unique creations into custom hand-knotted rugs. We continue to offer comprehensive manufacturing and consultation services for clients seeking high-quality Tibetan hand-knotted rugs, alongside an exclusive collection of our own designs.

In Tsomo’s words, “I was born, raised and loved in a Tibetan Refugee community in Nepal never short of affectionate elders who could work wonders with their hands, particularly, spinning, dyeing and weaving. My own late maternal grandmother carded and spun wool at the Tibetan Handicraft Center. My mother on the other hand was a weaver. She wove three-by-sixes alongside her best friend. Together they created stunning landscapes and medallions and made cranes, phoenixes and dragons come alive, knot by knot. My sensitivity and love for textiles can be traced back to them.”

With her family’s background in rug- weaving and an education in Textiles, Tsomo envisions more possibilities for Tibetan design. Her contemporary motifs, patterns and colors pay homage to her community’s slowly disappearing craft tradition, the everyday makers, their enchanting stories and their extraordinary imagination.

Tenjung is the Tibetan word for interdependence. It is a philosophy that is fundamental to our business practice and guides our commitment to sustainability and to our partner artisans. We work directly with a weaver-owned and operated workshop in Nepal and ensure they are paid fair wages that exceed industry standards. Our rugs are created in small batches using materials and techniques of the best quality. A perfect modern heirloom that will last generations!
