A series of board games have inspired Studio Tenjung’s new collection, Play Date. In the spirit of play and experimentation, the studio highlights a lesser-known Tibetan rug- weaving technique called Boorma that uses rods of varying thicknesses to create high and low piles. Also added are flat sumak weaves to create a more dramatic surface relief.

This design is a nod to Ludo, a very popular family board game in South Asia. The lively combination of colors and striking textures makes for an impressive accent piece in your living room, as a bedside rug or a wall hanging!

But if you’re familiar with Ludo, you can also venture into this modified design of the game to make your woven object more memorable. With four players, four tokens and a dice, this is a conversation game with no winners or losers. Game starts at the plush colored circles that represent each players’ home. At the start, players introduce themselves and their homes after which they take turns tossing the dice to determine the number of steps forward on each block. The game ends when all players finish a full circle and land in the center at a color different from where they started. They exchange ideas, memories and experiences to help make each of their new homes a softer landing.
